PUYA RELEASES NEW VIDEO – “SÚBELE LA CANDELA”

AGAIN SHITS GETS FOR REAL!

PUYA joins many other artists in protest against Puerto Rico corrupt officials.

The 1991 Borinquen founded band PUYA released exclusively on Facebook their video for “Sùbele la Candela”. Even though the band hasn’t made an official album released since 2014 album “Vital”.We saw some facebook activity approximately around 10 am. This post asked Puya’s followers to be pending since they were exclusively going to release a new track. After a couple of hours doing updates on their facebook profile, a 2nd post came three hours later with a new song and a new video “Sùbele la Candela”. This song is a solidarity message with the current crisis that Puerto Rico is facing.

How we got here?

Well, I am an old school rocker and there is no exception when it comes with metal with some extra flavor. That is the case of some of my selected bands such as Sepultura, Machine Head, Ill Nino, Soulfly, and Puya. The long-short is that I happen to follow the band especially with Harlod Hopskin and Maestro Ramon Ortiz which, recently have been very active involvement in several solo projects such as The Firecan Project, COROZO and Mi Pasion Mi Vida Mi Guitarra along with some other great guitar players.

If there is demand, there is supply

“Puerto Rico has been bled out by politicians for decades leaving it anemic” comments publicly the Maestro Ramon Ortiz, referring to the latest Puerto Rico political scandal. The veteran Latin Metal father accuses the corruption of government officials. “…enough of the abuse” referring to a scandal that involves Gov. Ricardo A Rosello and his administration. Puya is one of the artists that join the popular effort along Ricky Martin, Daddy Yankee, Residente joining the Boricua popular voice to kick out Gov.Ricardo Russello. None of these artists wasted any time in pleasing the people, their audience, their core but, Puya has always had a voice against corruption in Puerto Rico. This time was no exception for them.

Why are they pissed?

The island has reached the limit after going through some of their worst economic crisis for in the last 10 years. The reality is that the Borinquen united country has no time for bullshit.It seems that MR. Rossello was having a cozy relationship with former staff members but, these were far from fun. Refinery 29’s senior writer Andrea González-Ramírez explained to CBS NEWS that in the leaked chat was found the sexist and homophobic remarks used by the Governor and their officials. She also explains that this uncovered for their people something that is hard to prove in most cases. I don’t know about most of you but, I’d be pissed too. You can find the interview here.

It is beyond clear the message from Ramon Ortiz and Diego Romero (new vocalist) is for the people and with the people.

The relevance of this world event is that it is useless for corrupt politicians to try to outsmart the Puerto Rican people. This event proved to their people that they haven’t been wrong all this time along. It also proves the power and assertiveness of the country to claim a justified change. As long there are socio-politic issues there will be an inspiration for our favorite artists. One more time, it is proven that: what will always be real is the level of mass disorientation and negativity when it comes to politics. Presidents self-validating, people hating and suffering and world leaders living their dream. The peace of mind is that as long as there are bands like PUYA out there, there will be a metal boricua statement.
